Russ is leaving within the hour for San Antonio, where he will be attending the Mennonite Brethren National Youth Conference. (Have fun exploring the sight, and reading the "about" section for history on the conference.) This event is the largest gathering of Mennonite Brethren in the world, and happens once every four years. Last time, it took place in Anaheim, CA. As part of his new roles as District Youth Minister, he will be on the planning team for the next youth conference held in 2015.
We've said our family goodbyes, and made a special point of spending time together last night and this afternoon. That has become a family ritual we have before he leaves for any extended amount of time. The boys and I will head over to the church in about thirty minutes and see the group off.
And so it begins, a little prematurely; the summer travel season for Russ. We will all have to get in the groove of being apart again. In the coming months, Russ will be gone for three camps, a mission trip, and a district conference. I'm glad we are not trying to move in the midst of all these events now.
