Doctor Update

Ta-Da! I found a doctor who will take our whole family! Now, I'm in the process of transferring our records, etc.

It was hard for me to tell the secretary of our old doctor that we would no longer be going there. Rejection (in any variety) traumatizes me, and as a result, I hate to reject others in any form.

I am very proud of myself, and celebrate that I didn't allow my fear of rejection to cripple me or force me to stay in a situation that I was so clearly unhappy with. I'm growing. And I'm relieved!

Representational Corn

Grams made Resurrection Rolls with the boys on Easter afternoon. A fun recipe with a visual lesson about the empty tomb!

A quick how to: Roll a large marshmallow in butter, sugar, and cinnamon, and then wrap a crescent roll around it pinching together any seams. When the rolls are done baking, there should be an empty pocket, aka tomb, in the roll. It was such a meaningful treat, that I think we will incorporate it as a yearly tradition.

Our sweet Dellen, however, couldn't quite grasp that it was okay that Jesus left the tomb. He couldn't understand that our victory celebration is found in the resurrection of our Savior, and that we praise God for what the empty tomb respresents.

...And that is why, Dellen put his corn (his little baby Jesuses) back into the tomb before he ate his roll!

Easter Highlights

The Town of Corn holds an annual Easter Egg Hunt. The weather was good on Saturday, which was a blessing. Easter Sunday was cold and rainy!
Mom and her precious boys!

Dad and his great guys!

Grams and Gramps joined us before church and stayed over until Monday morning. They were able to visit Sam's classroom before they left on Monday.

We hunted eggs with Papa and Mema on Friday;
the most beautiful weather day of the weekend!

At a Complete Lost!

On Tuesday, I had the worst annual exam of my life with a new doctor. My beloved doctor moved away in December. We had been with Dr. Lawrence for probably nine years. He delivered both my children and was always available for us and all my questions and concerns; I even was able to call him at home a few times.

I realized I would have to get used to him being gone now. We decided to go with the new doctor that came to take his place and stay with our old office staff. What a blessing when they know you by name (like Norm on Cheers) and can work your sick child in the same day! Therefore, we never called around to other doctors. And now that I've been traumatized and never want to go back, we can't get into other doctors because they aren't accepting new patients! What to do?

I don't like things to be left undone and in a mess. For me this fiasco sends me into a tizzy; a task left unaccomplished off my to-do list! Russ, he hopes none of us have to go in for awhile. At least we are through the bulk of the flu season. I'm not sure if I can have the confidence to take my sick children into the new doctor. On the other hand, I know I can get them into see her. What a peeve of mine, that doctors don't take other patients when their doctor is unavailable!

On a bright note, there is a Convenient Care Clinic now open. I took my children there four times this winter. Since they get sick either after normal doctor office hours and on the weekends, maybe I won't even have to concern myself with doctors!

I miss my doctor even more now. Maybe next year I will be found driving to OKC to see if he will take me as a patient! I already dread it though, because of my experience this week, I will absolutely be dragging my feet to go again, and will need to have someone go with me!

Guns and Hugs

We've had another behavioral incentive chart going since the end of January. Each boy working towards a specific item; for Sam, it was a BB gun, and for Dellen, a football helmet.

It has been a few weeks already since the charts were completed. I'm tardy in blogging about it. But here are the highlights.

One day, Russ, Dellen and I went shopping and while we were in WalMart decided to go and look at the BB guns while Sam wasn't around. There was one gun with a scope left, so we decided to go ahead and get it. Meanwhile, Dellen found himself a baseball helmet and was wearing it around the Sports Department. We went home with both.

It never occurred to us that Dellen would tell Sam after school. It was a Wednesday night, and there would be no time for Russ to go out with Sam with the gun, so we wanted to wait to give it to him on a day they could go out together. However, the moment Sam walked through the door, Dellen told him we bought his BB gun with a scope that day! ...Little stinker! We stuck to our guns (so to speak) and didn't give him the gun then. He was on cloud nine though, just knowing he was that close to having it. A few days later, they officially finished their charts and Sam was given his gun. Dellen immediately exclaims, "I'm glad I got that for you!" Hugs were given and received all around.

The gun can only be used when Russ can go out with Sam to a friend's farm to shoot. The weather has been pretty lousy lately, and they've only gone out once. Russ drew a little bull's eye chart for Sam to use as a target. Sam had so much fun, that when he came home he drew another chart and pretended to shoot with his fake rifle and would then mark the bull's eye with his pencil, poking a hole in the paper where the BB would have gone through.

We realize that Sam may be a little young at six and only in kindergarten, to have his own BB gun. But, we are hoping that this will be a good avenue for some quality father/son time. Sam has been pretty disappointed lately to not live on a farm with all the perks that his friends have; they all drive four wheelers around and one particular good friend got a crossbow for his birthday. Sam even lied in January, telling this one friend about the deer that his daddy got with his rifle. That is another story completely, and one that was resolved with Sam telling his friend the truth about his non-hunting daddy.

And so it all begins. As adults, Russ and I are aware of the have-nots and sacrifices we make to live on one income in a lower income ministry position. We are not complaining, because we have chosen this life. In fact, we are quite thankful for God's amazing provisions for us. Yet, while we are aware of this situation, it is another one altogether to help our children realize they will not have what other children have. We are on a journey with them and hope to teach them to count their blessings as well.

By the way, Dellen loves his pilot helmet!

Matte vs Glossy

I've discovered I am glossy! I'd like to be matte finish.

For most of my life, I've had hangups about my face and skin texture; large pores and oily skin. I even had a horrific incident in high school when a boy was about to kiss me; as he was about an inch or two away, he said how ugly my skin was (think the words were pachyderm skin) and decided not to kiss me. That moment shaped me in ways I've tried to combat since then.

I've tried various products to become matte finished, and within the hour the glossy always returns. Almost the first thing I notice on people is their beautiful skin. It doesn't help any, that currently I am having more acne than I've had in about 15 years. I'm sure this is the worst that Russ has ever seen me. My precious boys even comment on the "owies" on my face. I thought this phase should be over long before the wrinkles came. Both at one time - too much! I would seriously, exchange every pimple for a wrinkle. I think wrinkles are beautiful!

We had a Christian Education Banquet at church tonight, honoring the volunteers in the church. There was a slide show running throughout the meal, and I watched for my picture to come up. And then it did; the one glossy picture in the midst of all the beautiful mattes. That's when it hit me; the whole glossy vs matte thing.

By the way, I always order matte photos at the store. I really dislike glossy!
